ClanPages - What do I like, anyways?
Well, since it's my top picks, I look for things that appeal to me.
Things I like include (in no particular order):
- Nice layout.
- Appropriate background
- Readable color scheme
- Info ABOUT the clan, including history and general info
- Info FOR the players, including character ideas, roleplaying hints, Stupid LARP tricks, etc.
- Clan-related links (ie, links to art & art sites for Toreadors, links to environmental causes for Gangrel)
- Clan related graphics (clan symbol, photos of people who look like they'd belong to the clan)
- Links to other clan pages.
- Some LARP content
- LYNX-friendly sites... that means having 'alt' tags on your inline graphics and graphical links.
- Some original Content. Lots, if you happen to know what you're talking about, and can express it in an interesting manner.
Things I DON'T like include:
- Character write-ups!!! I'm looking for CLAN PAGES, not CHARACTER pages! If you want to tell the whole world to know about your Ventrue-elder-primogen-harpy which you play in the local LARP, you make a Character page!! You don't make a clan page and promote yourself as the sole representative of that clan. That aside, I have nothing against character pages, and think that a list of links to various character pages makes a nice addition to a clan page. There - mini-rant done.
- Character sheets/Character stats. See above.
- Tons of broken links to pages which no longer exist.
- Write-ups on events in your local LARP, or other area-specific information.
- Long word-for-word quotes from the Clanbook.
- Rules quotes/Discipline descriptions from clanbooks or other manuals.
- Lots of heavy graphics which take ages to load. Make an image gallery if you must, don't force everyone to wade thru your graphics just to see the page.
If you think you have, or know of, a clan page which really deserves some recognition, drop me a line (my addy is at the bottom of the page). I don't profess to be the sole authority on clanpages, though, and I'll freely admit that my preferences are biased. But what the hey.. this is my page.
