Aria slept over as part of a Birthday present certificate we'd given her back in January. As part of that same certificate, I also agreed to sew a costume for her. She decided on a Fairy costume.

We looked through several books of artwork with pictures of fairies, and she really liked the gauzy whimsical fairies. So, off we went to Fabricland to buy material. They had a nice sale on, and some fabulous material in Autumn colors, so Aria and I decided (on the spot) to sew her an "Autumn Queen" costume, which could double as a Hallowe'en costume.

(I'd love to post pics, but didn't have time to take any before Aria went home. Starlin' has promised me pics whenever she gets around to taking some.)

I'm really happy with how the costume turned out! Despite tossing together a pattern on the fly, it looks almost professional. And the fabrics we chose look as they were created with this costume in mind.

Man, I really need to get pics!

First day of school.

First Tuesday 10% off Grocery shopping day.

Auntie Anne's funeral.

And to make the day more exciting, I got pulled over by a Checkstop. They wanted to see if I was wearing my seat belt (of course I was) but when they saw I had a child in the car with me, they wanted my car seats to be safety-inspected by a specialist. Waited for 5-10 mins for one of their inspectors to be available, and then found myself in a fascinating 15 minute long discussion over how to secure Autistic children into a car seat without the use of duct tape or purchasing a new, handicap-specialized vehicle.

(I won the debate, btw)

Ended up 30 mins late for the funeral.

It's no use crying over spilled milk. Not even 4 liters of it. (whimper)

All my kids are in school. The house is empty, but for me.

NAPTIME!

Sept 6, 2007

Kalen's B-day party will be held at "Princess Palace".

Yes, the name makes me cringe, too. But she's not doing the traditional "Princess" party there - she's doing the Knight's track. That means swordplay, a tournament, dinner served on a drawbridge, and lots of shouting and boasting. I think I can handle it.

Went to Millenium Place to go swimming with Myke last night, only to discover that the pool was shut down for annual maintenance. So Myke, being the evil task-mistress that she is, decided we would go upstairs and use the Gym instead. Oooooooh, I hurt today.

Did I mention I /still/ hurt??

Wed, Sept 12, 2007

Lady Myke is a cruel and evil task mistress. not content with the torture and abuse of last week, she brought us back to the gym again on Tues eve.

Oh, I hurt. I hurt. I hurt.

I have chainmail!! Lightweight, anodized aluminum links. A little scratchy in places (no surprise there) but it fits, and it's mine. And I bought it from ThinkGeek for $100 US plus shipping.

Yay!

Have I mentioned that I'm teaching Kalen how to play Scrabble?

Mon Sept 17, 2007

Have I mentioned (recently) how awesome my kids are?

Probably not, since I try not to make this into a Mommy Blog. But just for the record - my kids are, in fact, awesome!

Connor has recently learned how to skip. This is a great step for him, since many kids with sensory problems or motor-planning deficeits never learn how to skip. I am inordinately pleased.

Jasen is talking up a storm. He talks in full sentances, now. Some of the word endings are unclear, and he had problems with 'l' and 'r' like many kids at his stage of development, but he's really doing spectacularly. I remember this stage with Kalen, and how much I loved hearing the new words she seemed to be learning every day. Jase can now follow 2 step directions (yay!) Potting training is going well, too. We still have accidents sometimes, but less and less often (extra Yay!)

Kalen is doing well in school. she's made friends with one of the new kids in her class, and with some kids a grade younger than her. She's doing her very best to listen to the teacher at school, and we haven't had (many) complaints about her impulsivity or poor social skills. She's also been trying to have "Attitude-Free days" at home, where she works very hard on not talking back or giving us her usual degree of attitude. These days are a real hit with me, I must admit!

So, yeah... the kids are growing up, bit by bit. I'm enjoying it. A LOT.

Things that Suck: Not being able to update your Weblog for a full month, due to a computer crash invalidating your Adobe GoLive registration info!!!

Whew. Now that I got that out of my system, and got a proper Serial Number into my system, I am going to go watch movies with this good-lookin' guy I know. Expect bulk updates sometime soon.

The Candian dollar is equal with the US dollar. Ain't that great?

That means, when I ordered $250 US of True Dungeon tokens, it only cost me $250. Yay!!

(Yes, I bought more tokens. Deal.)

Bulk updates, as promised...

See Below (above, now.) I put them in chronological order, just to make reading easier.

Updating because I can.

I have a vehicle today! Yay!

Normally this is not a cause for great joy, because - hey - we live in Sherwood Park. Of course I have a vehicle. Most of Sherwood Park's population is two-vehicle households. When you live in a bedroom community like this, very little is in walking distance, so you need the second vehicle to go anywhere important during the day.

But for the past week and a bit, we've been a single-vehicle household.

Shades' van has been having serious automotive issues. Last time he refilled the radiator, it all leaked out within the day. And there was no puddle under the vehicle. Now, I'm not a mechanic, but I am a nurse. And I know that bleeding internally is a bad thing. I'm pretty sure it works the same way for vehicles. Fluids belong in certain areas and not in others. If they leak out, it's bad. If they leak into another system, it's even worse.

So Shades parked his van (on our driveway!!! The piles of dirt and sand are gone! After nearly two years!) and he's been using my vehicle to get to & from work.

But yesterday my parents got back from their trip to Europe (Hi Mom! Hi Dad! Great to have you back!!!) and Dad loaned Shades one of their vehicles, and I've got my van back.

So, Yay! No more waiting for Shades to get home so I can make a mad dash to the store before it closes! No more needing to plan supper a full day ahead just so I can pick up the groceries the evening before. No more being stuck at home with the kids. I have FREEDOM!

So what am I going to do with my freedom this morning?

I'm going back to bed.

Last updated goodness-only-knows-when. These are archives, after all.
